Wolverhampton doesn't always feature on tourist itineraries, but it should. The city has reinvented itself in recent years — with a thriving food scene, impressive cultural venues and a genuine sense of local pride that makes exploring it a pleasure.
Wolverhampton Art Gallery
Free to enter, the city's art gallery houses a superb collection spanning 300 years. The Pop Art holdings are particularly strong — works by Warhol, Lichtenstein and Peter Blake sit alongside a growing contemporary programme. Allow at least an hour, more if the temporary exhibitions catch your eye.
The Grand Theatre
A beautifully restored Victorian theatre with a year-round programme of drama, comedy, ballet and musicals. The annual pantomime is a local institution. Check the listings before your visit — an evening show followed by a short drive back to the hotel makes for an excellent night out.
Food and Drink
Wolverhampton's food scene has genuine depth. The Victorian indoor market sells fresh produce, bakery goods and global street food. Café Metro is a long-standing favourite for brunch. For evening dining, several independent restaurants serve cuisines from Indian to Italian to modern British — ask our team for current recommendations.
Every city has a personality. Wolverhampton's is warm, unpretentious and quietly proud of where it's going.
Shopping
Beyond the high street, Wolverhampton has a growing number of independent shops and vintage stores. The Mander Centre and the surrounding streets offer a mix of chains and independents, while the weekly outdoor market adds character and bargains.
